Hello! Since it's been over 3 years since I've kept an active journal here, I decided to do a very overdue friends cut. I've primarily cut dead journals along with journals that:

don't really interact with me
I don't really interact with
just isn't going anywhere as journal friends which is fine, and maybe I did us both a favor if they were hesitant to remove me first
I don't even remember giving access to

My reasons are not personal, but practical — I've been wanting to shorten my list for some time. While I'm not trying to cause any offense, I also doubt anyone will feel as such after reading why I potentially cut them and probably acquiesce.

My entries will continue to be access-locked, so please remove me back at your leisure since there'd be no point continuing to subscribe (unless you really want to for whatever reason you may have).

If anyone would like to be added back or I made a mistake, shoot me a comment here and we'll talk. Same deal for any dead journals that come back in the future. Otherwise, I wish everyone well. I promised myself I'd try to post some little check-ins for this, so here we go.

A little late for the start of the month, but... eh, it's February. All bets are off.

So.

Had a pretty awesome start, all told. A few little hiccups means a lot of time got taken up by Technical Issues (TM), but I still got what I wanted out of the month, creatively speaking, so it's all water under the bridge.

Total word count for the month was the highest it's been in well over a year (which is very good, because my GYWO pledge is the highest it's been in many years!), and I achieved my main goal for the month, which was to finish the first draft of Ye Endless WIP O'Doom Part 2 (Electric Boogaloo).

Tragically, this means that the entirety of February (at the very least) is going to be spent on editing said first draft... which, as we all know, is the worst, most exhausting, most soul-sucking part of any creative pursuit.

Writing longfic is my happy place. Editing longfic is the bane of my existence.

I would very, very much like this whole thing to be done, edited, cleaned up, and posted by the end of the month... but given the fact that February is the other bane of my existence, I'll accept this is highly optimistic.

If I can see an end to this darn thing by the time we hit March, I'll call it a win.

I FINISHED MY SECOND MOOD THEME!!!!!!!!
I mean I'm now kinda behind on grinding the jp event, but I accomplished the very cool thing of mood theme creation~ I've now made two separate themes, so I'm feeling pretty badass ;D

Unfortunately, enstars isn't super popular on dreamwidth, so I doubt it's what people are looking for...but I don't really care cuz I make things that I like, first and foremost XD Though I'm not actively using it here, I did post it at

.........anyway I know I just finished this theme and I have an event to run, but I was thinking of doing a differently styled mood theme next!! I have all the card assets because enstars changed how they put cards together in the app, so I can finally do what I had initially envisioned for an enstars mood theme: make them with the card borders!!

I'd make it of all the characters, and since there are over 50 of them I could even just use 5 star cards for all of them (to match the borders). I'm still torn on if I want to do editing for every single image, because doing too much is why I always stalled out on mood themes in the past. But I'm really proud of this design and definitely wanna do something with it eventually.

Other than that......I gotta get back in the trenches (grinding songs in enstars) so I can get all the Mayois my heart desires ♥

Uhhh it's still fucking cold here and it keeps icing over, which is making digging ourselves out of the snow a real pain. Pat finally managed to find some ice melt at a grocery store, so that should help. And Liz is apparently a fucking beast at shoveling ♥ Which means our driveway may be cleared some time before spring. And then I can hopefully stop feeling so trapped ;w;

Needless to say, I'm kinda over winter at this point...and it's supposed to snow some more throughout the week. plz no more!!!! I'm done!!!!!!

+ Yesterday was rough. Just walking around vibrating, had a cry in the storage room, absolutely hated the feel of washing my hands. Extremely over-stimulated. People being around all the time, and complete disruption of routines will do that eventually, which I did not appreciate learning. Thankfully I got a full nights sleep after I dozed off - got a sleeping pill from my dad to help out, still my brain was trying to scrabble back awake several times before I succeeded.

Fishery is somewhat more decent yoday, god I hope that holds up. January is supposed to be prime fishing season 😤

+ Today is Festivids Go Live Day \o/ hopefully it opens up earlier in the day for me, I absolutely cannot allow myself shiny new vids late in the evening. I just get too worked up.

+ Discovered I'd left some small fandom icons behind at

forsquares, including Borgen, so I have one more masterpost to put up before I move on to re-uploading the existing

spankulert icon posts to Dreamwidth. Those random black images are really starting to piss me off.

+ Also toying with the idea of fiddling with my journal layout. Gotta admit I'm too old for the piddly font size at this point, le sigh. Could be better for mobile as well.

+ Decided that yes, I will make myself a mood theme when I get home, thank you very much. Probably IWTV, and just the top/base moods, as I'd like to incorporate s3 as well. Making gifs is absolutely not in my wheelhouse, but imma give it my all.

+ Ugh a mail about Susanne Sundfør concert happening when I'll be at sea. I am having a sulk about it. Raye is performing in Oslo a few days before I get home. My bad concert luck is not letting up boo.

Challenge #15
How Did the Fandom Snowflake Challenge Go?

About as well as expected, really. It definitely kick-started me into keeping up with Dreamwidth and centring my thoughts on posting, which was just what I wanted -- even when I opted out of a challenge (which naturally happened more and more towards the end) I'd still carve out some time on odd-numbered days to wait for the question and feel it out, which is very useful when you're trying to rebuild a routine.

I only participated in about four of the challenges -- five if you include this one! -- but as I may have mentioned at the start, I've never actually managed all of them, so... again, as expected.

This year's challenges were a little different from what I recall from previous years, so I really enjoyed seeing what would come up. I'm kind of kicking myself for freezing up and failing to think of something to list for the Top Ten especially, as I love making those kinds of lists... but I guess the beauty of open-ended challenges means I can go back and do that in mid-April or July or November, whenever the impulse takes me.

All in all, I got what I wanted: a kick up the backside to start posting again and build a routine around being here, checking in, reading other people's posts, etc. As ever, a joyful experience!

+ Refrained from making this post until I had the icon that's been living in my head made and uploaded. (I have now opened my laptop two whole times this trip)

Anecdotes where readers gush about a fic on Discord, but make zero attempts to connect with the author. Screenshots of fic titles or passages with no URLs—and captions like, “I wish I could tell the person who wrote this how incredible it is.”

ALSO JUST. HELLO. GOD HE'S SO GORGEOUS EVEN WHEN HE'S WEARING THE MOST QUESTIONABLE OF THE FANTHANX OUTFITS SO FAR. ALL OF THE FANTHANX OUTFITS HAVE BEEN INCREDIBLE; WHY MUST ALKALOID GET A WORSE VERSION OF THE TRICKSTAR ONES??????? IT'S NOT FAIIIRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!! Me and the homies (friends in a discord chat) were crashing out last night because Mayoi is just so beautiful and we couldn't wait for the song to drop. Like, how dare they reveal the event and then make us wait 3 hours for the MV???? It dropped at 4 am my time, which is inconvenient when your wife has to work at 8:30 am.

....we totally didn't mean to stay up for it but oops we did anyway and holy shit it was worth it. The plaid outfits are (mostly) redeemed; the song is so fucking good that it made everything better!!!!! And the outfits honestly look better in motion, so there's that.

Anyway, in my defense, they did use possibly the most boring frame of the whole MV as the thumbnail, so what was I supposed to think?

My other main gripe is that this isn't very Valentines, you know? 'Cause this is running in the usual time slot for that...I guess the Megasphere finale could be our Valentines event, but it's doubtful, especially since the holiday campaign is starting this week.

Speaking of Mayoi events, I cannot fucking believe he's overlapping with an ENG event where he's a 5* but he sure is!!! The Plum Blossoms event also starts on the 31st, though I guess the JP event starts about 12 hours earlier because of time zones. BUT STILL. Plus Blossoms was the first ever event I played in JP and I got two copies of the Mayoi from it, so he kept me company in green songs for the first year or so I played. So I was planning on maxing him in ENG, because I love him, but now his fanthanx is here. sobs.

I'm determined to get Mayoi in the first 24 hours tho, so I'm probably gonna just stay up all night playing. OH LOL SO ANYWAY. One of the enstars discord servers I'm in started as the chat for anyone interested in tiering in War Atop the Sugoroku Board event, but as since just turned into a small, chill chat. It's got some people who produce different units than other chats we're in, which means Liz and I finally have someone to talk about Eden with ♥

I did impulse tier in that event, but tiering in Last Mission was 100% on purpose and I'm still so glad I did ;w; Double Face forever!!!! also lol 67 *shot*

You know what a foot of snow needs? Photoshoot in your backyard featuring a skirt you made in 2017 and then promptly forgot about!!! Pat very kindly braved the cold to bring my ~vision~ to life.

the skirt is so warm and the shirt was a poor life choice XD

I like to think I'm cute and funny, and I'm right~
At least now I know what I'm wearing to the ren faire this year ;D I made this skirt to wear to a vampire ball that Liz and I went to as part of our anniversary trip, and then just...never wore it again???? idk man, it looks good actually so I have no idea why I never found another use for it. Definitely wearing it in like, 9 months, when it's ren faire season. I've also just been wearing the skirt around the house because it's floor length, so it's keeping the warmth in. So yes, I'm wandering around with a black lace train like I'm living in the Addams Family, I guess XD

ANYWAY.

I did manage to make a few icons, so that's cool. I don't necessarily love them, but part of that is just...getting back into it...thankfully it's only been like 6 months so I'm not as rusty as I could be, but I still wish I could stay more on top of things and/or skip this stage.

And then the enstars event announcement is tonight and I'm sooooooo fucking anxious, since it's either gonna be MaM or ALKALOID, so my money is gone either way. If it's MaM, no one's gonna hear from me for a week while I grind out 22 mil points. sobs. It's just like.....some of my fave units have ended up last in the rotation and also why couldn't Madara have his event while I had a job and therefore more money to blow on a phone game? Like of course he waited until I had less disposable income. Bitch.

It's maybe a little odd to phrase it this way, but only after like 4+ years of on and off watching BL dramas (and getting into GL dramas) am I getting to stage of actually being okay with/open to "bad" endings again because it's not about the gay, it's about the plot. You now have my trust that you're not “killing off the gays” because they're gay, so I'm okay with killing off main characters if the plot makes sense that way.

You have likely heard of the recent Heated Rivalry craze-- a Canadian live-action 6-episode adaptation of the Game Changers gay hockey romance series. As longtime fujos, me and ebaths decided to finally watch it for ourselves, and I'm sure fujo friends are dying for my report, so here it is...

The TLDR is I basically didn't like it / I thought it was bad. SORRY!!! My lengthy review is under a cut so fans of the show can avoid taking psychic damage from all my criticism. HOWEVER, I still think it's great that the exists. Demonstrating an eager audience for gay media is by itself awesome, and hopefully will inspire future investors and creators to help produce more (and better) stuff in the future. And as always, people have different taste, and I'm glad people (especially gay people and fujos) are out there enjoying themselves.

I also want to say that I saw a lot of talk about how much the adaptation improved upon the source material. I have only read a few sections of the books so I can't confirm this, but honestly I feel like I'd have a higher opinion of the books than the show. The kind of entertainment you expect from what was literally originally published as AO3 fanfiction is clearly different from what you expect from six hour-long episodes of TV on HBO Max. Plus, something like cringe dialogue has less impact in a format where you're expected to essentially skim ahead to the smut, versus when it's spoken aloud and acted in real time. Just to give my angle here as I will continuously default to blaming the TV show creators for something that I'm aware was also in the book.

So it snowed basically all night and most of today before switching to freezing rain, which is decidedly less good but like. Whatever. It's still very wintery, and I like that...even if I'm not going out in it. It's way too damn cold!!!! Even after taping up a bunch of the windows in the house, we're all bundled up cuz the heat is only doing so well.

Other than that, I'm baking some cookies and debating trying to make icons again, since it's been...months.........all my photoshop skills have been going to

I mean I am upset about Hiyori fucking me over in the gacha, since there's a 50/50 chance that the next jp event is gonna be MaM (though the other option is ALKALOID so I guess I'm kinda screwed either way) and I need the rate up if it's Mama. I'm not saving up another 120+ memorial coins like I had to for Halloween Madara last year :T I'm just gonna max him during the event!!!!

..........also also I've made a lot of nui outfits in the past 6 months, so when I'm up to it I kinda wanna post them here. Dreamwidth is just such a better way to organize and hold onto things than everywhere else ;w;
